Study Questions for August 11, 2024

Read Ezra 7:1-28

From chapter 7 to the end of the book Ezra records the second of three returns to Jerusalem. This was 60 years after the first return under Zerubbabel's leadership to rebuild the temple of God.  Most of the people of Judah were still scattered throughout the entire empire/region. Some, like Esther, were still in Babylon. Ezra's purpose is described to us in 7:10.

1. Based on Ezra's description throughout this chapter, how would you summarize him?

2. Does the content of Artaxerxes' letter (7:11-24) remind you of another Old Testament story?  (Compare with Exodus 12)

3. What do the comparisons between these events (Ezra and Exodus) reinforce in you about the character of God?

Take some time and meditate over Ezra 7:27-28. Read it slowly.

4. How does Ezra's example of worship here inspire your worship of God?

5. How might a frequent revisit to Ezra 7 sustain you in your times of doubt for the rest of this year (politically, economically, and socially)?
