It's Next Thursday
There is a 4-5 year wait list, and we had to cancel in 2020, so you will want to be here for the unique and amazing opportunity we have next Thursday (Maundy Thursday) at 7:00PM in the Worship Center. CFC will be hosting “Christ in the Passover,” a powerful presentation shared by "Jews for Jesus." We will see a demonstration of the link between the Jewish feast of Passover and the Last Supper that Jesus shared with His disciples.
The Passover, a central Jewish festival, commemorates the Israelites’ deliverance from Egyptian slavery as detailed in Exodus. For Christians, this event prefigures Jesus Christ, the "Lamb of God," revealing deep theological connections between the Passover and His life, death, and resurrection. Jesus would have travelled each year with His family up to Jerusalem for the Passover festival.
In the Passover narrative, God instructs the Israelites to sacrifice an unblemished lamb, spreading its blood on their doorposts to protect them from the plague of the firstborn’s death (Exodus 12:5-7). This act of substitution—where the lamb’s blood sacrifice spares the people—foreshadows Jesus’ sacrificial role. In John 1:29, John the Baptist declares, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” Christians see Jesus as the ultimate Passover Lamb, whose death on the cross atones for humanity’s sins to offer deliverance not just from physical bondage but from spiritual death.
The timing of Jesus’ crucifixion further aligns with Passover. He died during the festival (John 19:14), when lambs were traditionally slaughtered, reinforcing the parallel. The "Lord's Supper" happens in the context of a Passover Seder meal. Jesus presents us with the fulfillment of bread and wine in the sacrifice of His body and blood (Matthew 26:26-28). This is the ratification of a New Covenant between God and man.
The theological richness of this celebration compels us to experience Jesus within the Passover. Join us here at CFC on the evening of April 17 to hear a presentation from David Brickner with Jews for Jesus. You will be rewarded with knowledge and experience that raises your affection for Jesus that enables you to receive the Lord's Supper with greater devotion.
We can't wait to see you Sunday and again next Thursday!
