Study Questions for April 6, 2025

Read Mark 13:1-14:26
Notice how Jesus is training the apostles for the future.

  1.  Mark 13:1-13 – Jesus predicts the temple’s destruction and warns of persecution. How do Jesus’ words about the temple’s destruction and the coming trials challenge or reshape the disciples’ expectations about the future? How might these teachings encourage us to trust God in uncertain times?
  2. Mark 13:14-23 – The ‘abomination of desolation’ and false messiahs. Jesus urges His followers to stay vigilant and discerning during times of crisis. What are some modern-day “false messiahs” or distractions that can lead us away from faithfulness to Christ, and how can we guard against them?
  3. Mark 13:24-37 – The coming of the Son of Man and the call to stay awake. Jesus emphasizes the need to remain watchful for His return, even though “no one knows the day or hour.” What practical steps can we take in our daily lives to “stay awake” spiritually and live with anticipation of Christ’s return?
  4. Mark 14:1-11 – The anointing at Bethany and Judas’ betrayal. The woman’s extravagant act of anointing Jesus contrasts sharply with Judas’ decision to betray Him. What does this passage reveal about true devotion to Jesus, and how can we cultivate a heart that prioritizes Him over worldly concerns?
  5. Mark 14:12-25 – The Last Supper. During the Passover meal, Jesus redefines the bread and wine as symbols of His body and blood. How does this moment deepen our understanding of Jesus’ sacrifice, and what does participating in communion mean to you personally?
  6. Mark 14:26 – Singing a hymn before going to the Mount of Olives. After the Last Supper, Jesus and the disciples sing a hymn before facing the trials ahead. Why do you think this detail is included, and how can worship or praise sustain us during difficult moments in our own lives?
