The Great Confession

Romans 10:9-13
9 If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved. 11 As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.” 12 Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

The resurrection of Jesus calls for our confession.

Romans 10:9a, 10b

If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord…
…it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.

As resurrection was the ultimate validation of Jesus as Lord, our declaration of Jesus as Lord is evidence of our faith in Him.

“Confession here is the acknowledgment of one’s faith in Christ. The fact that Jesus is Lord (God and Savior) became clear when He arose from the dead. Jesus’ resurrection was proof that He was the divine Messiah, God’s Holy One (Ps.16:10-11). Belief in the resurrection of Jesus Christ meant belief that Jesus is Lord.”
-Constable, Notes on Romans

Philippians 2:9-11
9 Therefore, God elevated him to the place of highest honor
and gave him the name above all other names,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue declare that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

The resurrection of Jesus calls for our confidence.

Romans 10:9b-10a

…believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead…
For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God.

Biblical heart-belief goes beyond intellectual agreement. It is deep, personal trust that the resurrection of Jesus is not only a historical fact but also seriously relevant for your life.

Romans 10:11

As the Scriptures tell us, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be disgraced.”
The resurrection of Jesus calls for our call.

Romans 10:12-13
12 Jew and Gentile are the same in this respect. They have the same Lord, who gives generously to all who call on him. 13 For “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
