Study Questions for May 18, 2025

Read: Matthew 25:31-46

Matthew 25:1-30 gives us the two final illustrations that correspond to the disciples' questions in Matthew 24:3.  Jesus gives us 6 of these illustrative answers that center around the need to prepare for his coming. The closing section goes beyond the questions of 24:3 to describe the period following the second coming of Jesus.

According to 25:31-46, as a general principle, a disciple's relationship with Jesus is integrally related to their relationship with real people. How are you at maintaining this understanding of discipleship?

What does it say about sheep (positively) and goats (negatively) that each do not recognize Christ in this integral connection with others?

There is a specific identification to "the least of these my brothers" but also a general principle we can apply now.
  • Why would the goats want to know precisely who "the least of these" are?
  • Why would the sheep?
  • What is the difference in their motivations?
  • How would you apply a general principle here?

How would you answer the objection to salvation by grace through faith in this passage, since there is a heavy emphasis on the "works" of the sheep here?

How would you reconcile Matthew 25:31-46 with Ephesians 2:8-9?
