Read Mark 8:27-9:50

In light of Peter's confession, "You are the Messiah," what is Jesus explaining with His remarks in 8:31 and 9:31?  Why is this explanation so important?

How does Mark 9:1-10 contrast with the suffering statements?  In light of this, how would you finish this sentence: "Before there is the experience of Messiah's glory, there will be __________________."  This is what it means for Jesus to be the Messiah.

Read Mark 9:30-32. In light of Mark 9:33-35, do His disciples understand what it means to follow the Messiah?  How might the further experience of 9:14-18 and 9:38-42 help and humble them?

How does the seriousness of Jesus' words in Mark 8:34-37 and 9:43-48 help you understand what it means to follow Him?  Does this frighten you? How might the words of the Father in 9:21-24 give you encouragement?
