Read Psalm 85 and Isaiah 57

  1. Reflecting on Psalm 85:1-7, the psalmist recalls God's past restoration and forgiveness while pleading for revival today. What specific ways has God shown mercy or "restored the fortunes" in your own life or our church community, and how does this fuel your personal prayer for Him to "revive us again" (v. 6)?
  1. Isaiah 57:15  describes God dwelling with the "contrite and humble" to revive their hearts. In what areas of your life do you sense a need to adopt a more humble posture before God, and how might checking your "posture and position" (as in Isaiah 57:17 and Psalm 85:8) prepare you individually for corporate revival? What does this have to do with repentance?
  1. Jonathan Edwards speaks of religious affections as a "transformed will that pursues Christ above all." Using Psalm 85:6-8, how can we distinguish genuine, joyful delight in God's holiness from mere thoughts or fleeting emotions in our daily walk?  Historically, what would you think would be the signs of revival in your own life?  Do those signs of revival show up in the text?  What signs of revival do show up in the texts of Psalm 85 and Isaiah 57?
  1. Ezekiel 37:5-6 promises God breathing life into dry bones, echoing the call for revival.
As in Isaiah 57:15, is there a stubborn way that keeps showing up in your life? Spend some time as a group praying for God's pursuit, correction, and healing in regards to those stubborn commitments.
