Read Psalm 1

The word for "meditate" here is hagag. It means to read God’s word, speak it, reflect upon it, and act accordingly in response to wisdom.Psalm 1:1-3 and Joshua 1:7-8 emphasize meditating on God’s word day and night. What practical steps can we take to incorporate consistent meditation on Scripture into our daily routines, and how might this practice help us grow in wisdom?

Wisdom can be described as the ability to discern the righteous application of knowledge, starting with reverence for God. How does reverencing God shape our decision-making process, and can you share an example of a time when trusting God’s word led to a wise choice in your life?

In Matthew 7:24-27, Jesus compares a wise person to someone who builds their house on solid rock. What are some “sandy foundations” (e.g., worldly advice, pride, or self-reliance) that people might build their lives on, and how can we ensure our foundation is rooted in God’s teachings?

Psalm 1:4-5 and Matthew 3:11-12 describe the fate of the wicked as “chaff” that is scattered or burned. What does this imagery suggest about the consequences of disregarding God’s word, and how can we lovingly encourage others to choose the path of wisdom instead? What does this reveal about Jesus?
