Study Questions for March 2, 2025

Read Mark 6:7-56

It should be clear at this point that Gospel of Mark is a call for discipleship in the midst of conflict as well as quiet. A disciple is a "student" or follower of a particular teacher. An apostle is a disciple who has been commissioned with the authority of the teacher to be his representative.

The purpose of a disciple is first to know the teacher you follow.

How do the parallels in Mark 6:14-16 and 8:27-29 clarify the identity of Jesus?

From your previous study, what elements of training produces disciples who become representatives?  What does 6:31 have to do with the training process?  How can you relate with what they must have felt in 6:32-33?  How does Jesus respond when his plans are changed in 6:34?

In terms of training the disciples, compare and contrast Mark 4:35-41 with 6:45-52. What do you see as the progression of training?  What is the same? What is different?

In 6:31-44 and 8:1-9, what is the significance of Jesus' words in 6:37?

How do the disciples partner with Jesus in this particular service?

What seems most daunting to you personally as you progress as a disciple of Jesus?

How does your understanding of the progression of these disciples help you as you are in a process of your own?
