Trusting God's Protection

Read Psalm 23 with fresh eyes. Discipline your familiarity with this Psalm. As you hear this short song, look for the shepherding elements of provision, guidance, affirmation and love.

(Psalm 23:1-3a, Philippians 4:19): How does the imagery of God as a shepherd providing rest, nourishment, and renewal in Psalm 23:1-3a reflect your own experiences of God's provision? How does Philippians 4:19 deepen your trust in God's ability to meet your needs in challenging times? Discuss by drawing from your prior knowledge of Paul's life experiences. Does he have the credibility to make such a promise?  Do you?

(Psalm 23:3b-4, Psalm 16:7-8): Psalm 23:4 speaks of God’s presence in the “darkest valley,” offering comfort and guidance. Can you share a time when you felt God’s guidance or presence during a difficult season? How does Psalm 16:7-8 add more color to Psalm 23, and encourage you to trust in God’s constant guidance?

(Psalm 23:5): The sermon highlights God preparing a feast in the presence of enemies. What does this imagery suggest about God’s protection and affirmation of you, even in hostile or challenging environments? How does this shape your perspective on facing opposition?

(Psalm 23:6, Romans 8:39): Psalm 23:6 describes God’s goodness and love pursuing us, and Romans 8:39 assures us that nothing can separate us from God’s love. How does the idea of God’s active, pursuing love impact your daily life and faith? Can you share an example of how you’ve experienced this love?

Bonus: Compare and Contrast this study of Psalm 23 with the event in Mark 6:30-34.
