Care Community

You are part of a team of 5 or 6 people who support a foster family by providing meals, child care, household chores, run errands, praying for the family and more.
The Win: There is a crisis in the country and in the tri-state with many children waiting for foster homes. Many foster families stop fostering after the first year because it’s very difficult. A Care Community helps to ease that burden for the family, and allows team members to be a part of God's plan to care for these kids.

This is the right role for you if:
  • Have a heart to serve others
  • Have a heart for kids in need
  • Are looking for at least a 1-year serving commitment
  • Want to pray for other families

Volunteer Responsibilities (these can vary per team):
  • All team members commit to praying for the family.
  • All team members provide 1 meal a month for the family. It can be a simple meal like burgers or pizza if you don’t want to cook. If you volunteer as a family, your family only needs to provide 1 meal per month.
  • You might offer to help with chores like laundry, house or yard work.
  • You might offer to babysit.
  • You might offer to mentor and/or tutor older foster children.
  • You may also offer to help with other family needs.

Time Commitment: It varies depending on how much you offer to do, but at least 1 meal a month and prayer.

Volunteers Needed: This constantly varies depending on how many foster families we have. We are always adding to existing Care Communities as members step off, and we usually start a few new Care Communities each year.

Additional Requirements: Church Membership, Background check, 1 hour online training

Care Portal

You are part of a team that helps provide items to help keep kids with their biological families and out of foster care. We seek to connect with the families, if possible, to share about Jesus.
The Win: There is a crisis in the country and in the tri-state with many children waiting for foster homes. DCS does what they can to keep kids with their parents or other family members instead of going into foster care, but sometimes the family members need items to keep the children in the homes. Care Portal is a collaboration between Vanderburgh and Warrick County DCS and about 10 area churches to help meet these needs.

This is the right role for you if:
  • Have a heart to serve others
  • Have a heart for kids in need
  • Want to help source needed items and/or deliver the items to the families.

Volunteer Responsibilities (you can choose which ways you want to serve):
  • When there is a request that CFC commits to fill, you’ll get an email with what items are needed. If you’d like to provide for that need, you can choose to look for gently used items or buy new items. Any money spent on these items is not tax deductible. Items might include twin beds, bedding, car seats, dressers, etc.
  • You can choose to be part of the teams that help to deliver the items. You might just provide a truck and muscle, or you might be the person who seeks to connect and pray with the family.

Time Commitment: It varies depending on what you choose to do. If you are part of the delivery teams, those usually take a couple of hours, and you might be asked to do that a few times a year. You have the choice of when you want to participate.

Volunteers Needed: (Make realistic as per the time commitment. For instance, if everyone is once a month, you’ll need more volunteers than if it were every two weeks.)
We have a solid team of people who receive the emails and provide items, but we can always add more people. We also have several people who make deliveries now, but we can always add more.

Additional Requirements: CFC Membership, Background Check Required
If you are only providing items, there are no additional requirements. Those making deliveries and connecting with families must have a background check and complete a short online training. We haven’t determined doctrinal statement needs for this position.

Blood Drive Volunteer

Assist the Red Cross with snack distribution or check-in at the CFC Blood Drives.
The Win: Giving blood saves lives and is a great way to love our neighbors. We assist with tasks so that those trained to do the blood drive can focus on that.

This is the right role for you if:
  • Are friendly and welcoming
  • Like to serve others
  • Aren’t squeamish around blood

Volunteer Responsibilities (you can choose which ways you want to serve):
  • Tasks as assigned by CFC blood drive coordinator. Primarily helping with snacks or check.

Time Commitment: 2-3 hours twice a year

Volunteers Needed: About 6

Additional Requirements: None
